The Shaffers were established in 2005. Our members include supportive husband, Anthony Dean, commonly known as Tony; and loving wife Brandi Michelle. Adorable daughter Addison Rienn added in 06, and precious little Kaden Mikal joined the clan in March 09. We just moved to Washington, but we will always be Idahoans. We love lifes simple pleasures such as watching our daughter play, seeing our son smile, the great outdoors, good food, the company of family and friends, and football of course!

The shining sun and lack of snow lured us outside and we walked down to the lake today. On our way we realized it was MUCH colder then we had anticipated. Kaden wasn't phased by the cold, he wanted to explore and gawk at the lake all afternoon, but by the time he made it back to the house he was exhausted and is now taking a nice long nap.

There never seems to be enough hours in the day. Being a stay at home Mom, you would think that I would have time to get everything done and then some. But the day time hours with my kiddos fly by so fast and before I know it I need to start dinner and welcome my husband home. This is my day yesterday. It flew by in a whirlwind, and now I am trying to preserve some of the details so I can look back someday and see how we spent our days at home. I won't always get to spend my days with these cute kids, but for now I am so very thankful for every day I get.

Addi has grown tired of doing her worksheets. She sees them as "work", and tries to get out of doing them at all costs. The other day it was literally taking her HOURS to finish her two worksheets, because she simply wouldn't focus and complete the task. Kaden even grew annoyed with her resistance and swiped her work sheets, colored in what he perceived to need coloring, and handed them back to her in matter of fact manner. He rolled his eyes at her and walked away, leaving her with a horrified look on her face. It was quite priceless, and I hope he always gives his big sister a push when she needs it!

To switch it up a bit, I bought the kids each a box of Valentines and Addi has really enjoyed addressing the cards. I wrote a list of names and she spent a great deal of time and effort writing out each name and then proudly signing her own. AND she didn't even realize she was working on her lessons! We have also been making animal friends. Addi gets to pick their name and write it on their belly, then make up stories about them. Here are two elephant sisters, Leema and Sassy.

Addi says, "Momma, these elephants are trouble makers! ALL my FAVORITE people are trouble makers Momma. Garfield, Lilo and Stitch, Bugs Bunny, and that little green guy on my cereal box (Lucky Charms). Someday I want to live where all the trouble makers are because I think it would be a lot of fun there!"

Oh Boy. I am pretty sure the place where all the trouble makers live is called prison. I may have to enroll this girl into a "scared straight" program at an early age ;o).

We decorated these gift bags so the kids could keep their Valentines in them. They both had a lot of fun with this project.

After our bags were finished it was lunch time. Kaden had a cookie for dessert,
And then it was straight to the bath tub with him!
He fell asleep after his bath before I could put him in his room. I gave him a pillow and he slept on the living room floor for a couple hours.

While Kaden napped, Addi had a very important lesson. She has been bugging me to crack the eggs every time we bake. Obviously the girl needs practice and experience before she can crack eggs on her own. The only way she will learn is if I actually let her do it. So here is her first lesson in cracking eggs. She had one dozen eggs, and learned a lot. She won't be cracking my eggs anytime soon, but someday this chick is going to be a master chef.
After we finished up egg cracking 101, I gave Addi a fork and told her to scramble them all for practice. We then disposed of the eggs and started a fresh project of baking a cake. After I got the cake in the oven, Addi took a bath and watched a movie.

Here is our "Cookies and Cream" cake. Devils food cake in the "Tres Leche" style, meaning after I baked the cake I let it cool, then poured a mixture of sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and milk over the top and put in the fridge. The cake absorbs the milk mixture and it makes for a very moist cake. Topped with Coolwhip and Newman's Own chocolate sandwich cookies.
After the cake was finished, it was time to make dinner. After dinner I took some cake to our friends and then ran to the store for more craft supplies, and toilet paper. Exciting stuff. I didn't even realize it was Friday night until I ran into a large group of college girls on a mission to get keg supplies. When you are a stay at home Mom, days of the week don't matter. There are no Friday nights. I worked my way around the girls, who were talking REALLY loud, and it was making me laugh. Not too long ago I was one of them. Probably the loudest one. Now I am the Mom at the store on a Friday night in her sweats, no makeup, and no plans. Well except to hurry home to my handsome husband, who put the kids to bed while I was out, cuddle up, and get ready for the next crazy fun day with my kids. And actually, that is WAY better than any Friday night out on the town.

Over the river the through the woods...

...To Grandmothers (and Papa's) house we go....

During Tony's week off we drove to Montana to visit my parents. They live in the woods, off the grid of our navigation devices. It is so beautiful there, and I am happy I got to experience a little bit of their amazing winter landscape. The kids were so happy to finally get there, and it didn't take them long to make themselves at home.
In fact, it is pretty safe to say they took the place over.

Tony and my Dad went ice fishing a couple times while we were there. Tony was excited to catch a sub-species of fish he had never caught before.
While the big boys were freezing their butts off on the ice, Kaden was doing his best to keep their chairs nice and warm for them.
Grandma also took us out to breakfast while they were gone.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm
All that food can leave a man in need of a good nap!

When Papa got home Addi was ready for story time.

While we were there I decided to take advantage of an opportunity for family pics. My Dad is an amazing wildlife photographer and he stated that it is in fact easier to take a picture of a grizzly bear then a picture of my son. :o) My Dad was able to get some great shots, even though Kaden was less than helpful in the process.

Before we left we all went out to breakfast and had a good meal before we hit the road.
We had to get home for the Steelers game!!!!
Looks like they are headed to the SUPER BOWL!!!
