Four Years of Wedded Bliss

Yesterday Tony and I celebrated our four year wedding anniversary. In honor of the occasion I bought a pair of beautiful black strappy high heels. Now I should mention that I have never really worn high heels in my life. I am more of a tennis shoe kinda girl, and I have always been on the tall side so I saw no reason to make myself even taller. Back in college my friends would put on thier heels when we went out and by the end of the night they were barefoot and had been complaining all night about thier feet while mine were tucked comfortably and safely away in a nice pair of chacos or pumas. I have sat on many benches around campus and seen girls falling to thier doom in a pair of ridiculously unfunctionable heels, a daily occurance in the long winter months. I vowed to never be that girl. I would always choose comfort and functionality over sleek and sexy. Needless to say, Tony has never seen me in heels and has tried for years to get me to wear some. So I did it for him. When I put the shoes on my feet I was very pleased. They looked so good. Then I stood up. Whooooaaaaaaa. This isn't right. I was wobbly. My equalibrium was way off. I shuffled around the house and said a quick prayer that I wouldn't embarress myself in public. We decided to eat at a little locally owned wine bar called Nectar. Tony parked the car a few blocks away and suggests we walk to the restuarant. I laugh and tell him to think again! In these shoes I need front door service. He parks closer and we walk into the restuarant. I hold on tightly to his arm, not because I feel romantic, but because I physically need assistance. The hostess takes us back to a very private and romatic table tucked away in the back corner of the place. It was perfect. Once I was sitting I was comfortable and happy and we enjoyed a very nice meal. The atmosphere was perfect for our special night out. Nectar has a small menu, but everything was appealing and they use local organic foods whenever possible. We had the crab cake for starters and shared our meals of bacon wrapped meatloaf with chipotle glaze, mashed potatoes and some deliciously perfect carrots, and mac and cheese made with Cougar Gold cheese. Yummy. Tony ordered a bottle of wine from a winery in Eagle, Idaho. I wasn't really in the mood for wine, but after I saw how much it cost I decided I would help him finish it off. As we walked out I told him to take a long hard look at me in the shoes because they were coming off and probably would never be seen again. We went over to the Sandpiper and caught the 4th quarter of Monday Night Football. It was an exciting ending and I had several fantasy players to watch and cheer for. After the game we both decided that as lame as it sounded, we just wanted to go home and watch a movie. So we did. And it was the perfect evening out with my husband. I am looking forward to many anniversaries in our future, hopefully minus the heels. :o)
